| Q & S | |
| S | July 10, 2010 Dear Sandy, Diagnosed within 2 days and left in the vet’s care, your daughter’s puppy will live. If there is no pet insurance to help with cost and financial hardship pose a dilemma then give your time to help the puppy. Poor suffering pet cannot hold any substance internally. Prepare for a lot of cleaning up convulsive vomiting and a lot of cleaning up severe diarrhea. Convulsive vomiting, severe diarrhea cause dehydration and also ruptures delicate intestinal blood vessels. Do not feed food because the stomach is not ready for food. DO NOT ALLOW your pet to drink water because water is too harsh on damaged intestines at this time. The water mixed with bloody intestines will spew forth like a bloody fountain. From your local whole foods store where herbal extracts are sold, purchase Licorice Root extract, Wormwood/Black Walnut extract, Raw Honey and a container of Purified Water. If you have a choice of extracts – choose Gaia Herbs extracts. When four hours pass with no vomiting give a full dropper of Licorice Root extract, a full dropper of Black Walnut extract and follow with full finger-tips of Raw Honey to serve as nutrients and also to coat intestinal linings. Give every 4 hours until your pet is stabilized. When more hours pass and there is no vomiting give a tablespoon of water every hour. After 24 hours pass with little to no vomiting serve chicken broth and more water. Remember, all of that vomiting and all of the diarrhea cause severe intestinal blood vessel damage. Do not serve coarse food. Let the Raw Honey and chicken broth be the only food. You want to allow those ruptured blood vessels time to heal. Continue with Licorice Root extract, Wormwood/Black Walnut extract, Raw Honey, Chicken Broth and Water until you know your pet is stable. Note: If the vomiting does not subside within a reasonable amount of time then you must get your pet on an I.V. Water is absolutely necessary because of dehydration. Dehydration will kill your pet. Some vets will allow you to purchase I.V.’s and show you how to administer at home. You either have the money to leave the puppy with the vet or devote yourself as the puppy’s full time home nurse. Those are the only two ways to improve his chance of living. Herbs n Pets |
